As the year draws to a close, we at Stepping Stone are reminded of the life-changing impact we can create together. Your support directly funds our mission to provide recovery programs, mental health resources, housing assistance, and a safe, affirming space for individuals seeking to rebuild their lives. For nearly five decades, we’ve been a lifeline for the LGBTQ+ community and beyond, helping people overcome addiction, rediscover their purpose, and thrive.
This year-end giving season, we invite you to join us in making a difference. Every donation ensures that more individuals have access to the resources and support they need to reclaim their lives and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
One such inspiring example is Josh Dunn, whose journey through Stepping Stone exemplifies the power of recovery, resilience, and community.

Reflecting on his life before seeking help, Josh describes feeling overwhelmed by self-doubt and challenges with addiction. “I felt lost,” he recalls. Yet, his decision to enter Stepping Stone marked a turning point.
“While at Stepping Stone, I discovered that the most difficult moments could also become the most meaningful,” Josh shared. “Stepping Stone gave me the foundation to build a life I’m proud of; it’s a place of spiritual investment and growth for the LGBTQ+ community and beyond.”
Through the support of dedicated staff, compassionate peers, and tailored programs, he began to see himself not as defined by addiction, but as someone with the strength to grow and thrive.
Josh embraced this opportunity for transformation, confronting personal challenges and learning to set healthy boundaries. He credits Stepping Stone for providing a safe and affirming space where he could heal and rediscover his sense of purpose. Today, Josh serves as a Community Representative for County Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe, using his voice and experience to uplift others.
